Waqar to stay as captain 11 April 2001
The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt Gen Tauqir Zia has termed the national cricket team as "unpredictable" saying its performance varied from match to match. Talking to reporters at a function in Kharrian on Tuesday, the general said while the team has performed well in a match at Sharjah, it disappointed the nation in New Zealand. "Now they have started performing well in the Sharjah Cup but they had disappointed the entire nation during the recent New Zealand tour," the cricket boss said. He told reporters that Moin Khan was out of the team due to some fitness problem but expressed his hope that Wasim Akram would join the team after the Sharjah Cup. He ruled out any change in the captaincy. "We will stick to Waqar Younis as a captain," he said. Answering another question, he said despite sacked coach Javed Miandad's denial about match-fixing in New Zealand, the inquiry would continue and "we will act accordingly" after the inquiry report. © Dawn
