Selectors outline reasons for Garrick's inclusion
Mike Findlay - WI chairman of selectors - 19 April 2001
In deciding on the last-minute inclusion of opening batsman, Leon Garrick, in the West Indies team for the Fifth Test versus South Africa, the Selection Committee took into consideration Garrick's good form in the regional cricket championship this season in which he scored four half-centuries, an unbeaten double century and 172; his most recent innings of 174 not out against a strong South Africa bowling attack at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay; concern over the unsatisfactory starts which the West Indies team has had, especially in the last three Test matches of the current series.
