Agreement reached on Mashonaland's future Media Release - 9 August 2001
The impasse between Mashonaland Cricket Association and the recently formed Mashonaland Cricket Union has now been resolved to usher in a new era for cricket in Mashonaland. A meeting, pursuant to that held on Friday 3 August 2001, was held on Tuesday, 7 August 2001 and an amicable and binding agreement was reached between MCA and MCU. Heads of agreement are being drawn up and, once these are signed during the course of the week, MCU representatives have undertaken to dissolve that Union and work under one united Provincial Association. Specific details of the Heads of Agreement will cover the following: Full support by MCA of the proposed amendments to the ZCU Articles of Constitution; Full endorsement by MCA of the Task Force recommendations; An integrated composition and complement of the MCA Board; A reduction in the number of votes for the MCA Friendly League Clubs; Racially balanced convenorship of MCA committees and team management; A more prominent role with reporting opportunities for younger clubs and women's cricket to MCA. The first meeting of the reunited MCA is scheduled for Tuesday 14 August 2001. The facilitators of the meetings, Peter Chingoka (President ZCU) and Alwyn Pichanick (Life President MCA) commended the representatives from both parties for their mature, constructive and responsible approach for the betterment of cricket. MCA was represented by Acting Chairman Steve Cochrane, Anthony Brooks and Brian Erlam and the MCU delegation was led by Chairman Steve Mangongo and supported by Vice-Chairman Macsood Ebrahim and Secretary Ozias Bvute. © Zimbabwe Cricket Union
