Borde blames bowlers for dismal performance
17 August 2001
While the batsmen failed to put up a decent score in either innings,
selection committee chairman Chandu Borde chose to attack the bowlers
for India's humiliating 10-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in the first Test
at Galle on Friday.
"The bowlers gave away too many runs and did not take advantage of the
wicket in the beginning when they should have bowled a better line and
length," Borde told PTI over phone from Pune.
"It was yet another dismal performance (by the Indians)," he said but
refused to go into the merits of Saurav Ganguly's leadership. "This is
not the time to do that... The captain is equally disappointed."
Borde hoped the team would leave the defeat behind and play the next
two Tests with a renewed zeal. "Ours is a talented team and all they
(the players) need to do is to regroup themselves and play to their
potential, putting the past behind them," he said.
