PCB conducted refresher and advance courses for referees and umpires Pakistan Cricket Board - 24 August 2001
A two-day refresher course for referees started at PCB Head office Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Friday. The course is for incumbents belonging to Northern Regions covering Punjab and NWFP. A similar refresher was held earlier for Southern Region (covering Sindh and Baluchistan) at Karachi. The course attended by 28 persons is being conducted by Col. Naushad, a former test cricketer and an experienced hand having acted as ICC Match Referee many times. The course was kicked off by an address by PCB, General Manager Operations Zakir Khan, who spoke on the role and importance of the Match Referee to act as eyes and ears for PCB in domestic cricket. He stressed the need for continuous updating of knowledge about rules and regulations of the game, which have to keep pace with the tremendous impact being brought about by electronic media on the game. The responsibility of the match officials, consisting both of referee and umpires is becoming even greater with change in the rules on the anvil all the time, he added.
A four-day umpires advance course was also held under the auspices of PCB at Lahore from August 20-23, in which all the Umpires on the PCB panel for Grade-I and Grade-II attended the total number being 29. The course conducted under the National Umpiring Council and arranged lectures by several former Pakistan Test Umpires during the course to update the knowledge of the umpires about the rules and regulations of the game.
