Ruchira Perera
Wisden CricInfo staff - August 16, 2001
Wisden overview A lively left-armer, albeit injury-prone, Ruchira Perera has been waiting in the wings for some time now. A potential successor to Chaminda Vaas, he has yet to excel at the highest level, but is a regular fixture for Sri Lanka's A team against touring sides, an indication of the selectors' faith in his ability. He grabbed his opportunity when it came, taking 3 for 48 as England were forced to follow on in the first Test at Lord's in 2002, but his action was reported by the umpires as being suspect and he played no further part in the tour. After undergoing a remodelling of his action he was cleared to return, but at Johannesburg in November 2002 he ran into trouble again, being removed from the attack after receiving three warnings for running down the wicket. A stocky presence on the field, he jousts with Muttiah Muralitharan for the No. 11 berth. Andrew Miller
