Pybus to coach Pakistan in short-term deal
Wisden CricInfo staff - August 16, 2001

KARACHI (Reuters)
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed South African Richard Pybus as nationalteam coach until November this year. "The PCB has reached an agreement with Pybus under which he will remain coach for the Asian Test Championship, the home series against New Zealand and the tri-nations tournament in Sharjah in November," PCB spokesman Khalid Butt said.

"As per agreement after the tournament in Sharjah, the PCB and Pybus would both review their options and take a decision on his continuation as coach, or a fresh choice for the remaining commitments this season," he added.

English-born Pybus, who is now settled in South Africa, worked with the Pakistan team on their recent tour to England but later turned down a long-term offer. Pakistan have had nine coaches over the last four years, with Pybus having worked with the team on three separate occasions. Pybus, the only foreigner to coach the team, helped Pakistan reach the 1999 World Cup final in England but was sacked after just three months in his first spell in the job.

Pakistan begin the home season with a Test against Bangladesh on August 29.
