A double dose of Kerleys mean trouble for Burley
Trevor Phillips - 20 December 2001

As the New Forest Indoor Cricket League enters its Christmas break Cadnam underlined their title ambitions with a convincing 5 wicket win over struggling Burley. Neil Kerley took two wickets as Burley were dismissed for 112 (Paul Yates 37, Wayne Tucker 24), before Paul Kerley (26no), Dave Gates (26no) and Mike Caffyn (25no) enabled Cadnam to cruise home with 11 balls to spare.

Paultons' dreadful start to the season continued with a 60 run mauling by the rapidly improving North Baddesley. Jon Bance was once again the lynchpin, scoring an unbeaten 41 as Baddesley totalled 156 for 4. Paultons were never in the hunt and were bowled out for 96 in the tenth over.

Brockenhurst are another team enduring a pretty torrid time at present. They were beaten by 70 runs in their Division 2 clash with Cadnam Seconds. Paul Jewar (47), Rob Jurd (49no) and Neil Dunning (25) all made hay as Cadnam amassed 176-5. Micky Williams restored a little pride for Brock with an unbeaten 29 as his team were restricted to 106 for 4.

Andy Ward compiled the biggest score of the day but ended on the losing side as Esso Seconds' title hopes were dented by Godshill. Ward's 53 not out wasn't enough to save his team from a 16 run defeat. James Harrison (26no) was the main contributor in Godshill's 124-5 before Esso could muster just 108-5 in reply.

In Division 3, New Milton Seconds' storming start to the season was halted by Pylewell Park Seconds despite a good all-round performance from Richard Howard. Jamie Snellgrove (26no) and Howard (26no) guided Milton to 106-2, but this was never likely to be enough against a powerful Pylewell batting line-up. And so it proved as Wayne Royan (28no) and John Royan (23) saw Pylewell home in the final over with Howard taking two of the three wickets to fall.

Closest finish of the day came in the match between Burley Seconds and Pennington. Veterans Gerry Rickman (26no) and Graham Toms (25) helped Pennington to 109 for 2. Burley then lost 5 wickets as Pennington looked on course for victory before the experienced Les Browning (37 no) returned to the fray to score the winning runs in the final over.
