ICC Media Statement on Observer Allegations "Old and Unsubstantiated" - Allegations about current Australian series untrue
ICC Media Release - 12 February 2001

Allegations published in The Observer in London this weekend were both old and unsubstantiated, Sir Paul Condon, head of the ICC anti-corruption unit said today.

"The article contained no new information and is a re-packaging of unsubstantiated allegations relating to the 1980s,"he said.

Sir Paul said he could categorically deny that there are any allegations about any of the matches in the current series in Australia.

"The recycling of reports in the British Sunday press has unfairly tarnished the reputations of players involved in the Australian series," he said.

"We will vigorously pursue any information about the full range of matters we are investigating. But we will be equally vigorous in dealing with recycled speculation. The time has come for some journalists who are recycling this sort of information to put up or shut up," he said.
