The Special General Body meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, to be held in Chennai on Friday, will aim to find an amicable solution to the vexed Bindra issue which has been hanging fire for a long time now.

Last month IS Bindra, a former BCCI president was asked to present himself before the disciplinary committee in Chennai. The committee heard his explanation, as well as that of the Punjab Cricket Association secretary MP Pandove (incidentally Bindra is the president of the PCA) and then decided that a decision would be taken at the working committee meeting in New Delhi on January 25.

The show cause notice was issued to Bindra after he unleashed a tirade against the board's functioning in the wake of the match fixing scandal last year. When he appeared before the disciplinary committee, Bindra seemed to adopt a conciliatory note, in the process heaping praise on current Board president AC Muthiah. However the January 25 meeting deferred taking any action on Bindra and Muthiah indicated that a final decision on the Bindra issue would be taken at the Special General Body meeting, slated to be held at Chennai tomorrow.

The meeting is scheduled to go through the findings of the disciplinary committee on Bindra and the PCA and take a decision. Tomorrow's meeting has been necessitated as the working committee cannot act against the board's administrators but only against players.

Matters pertaining to the National Cricket Academy are also likely to be taken up at the meeting. The board for example is yet to take a decision on Gavaskar's resignation from the NCA committee. The NCA director Hanumant Singh and one of the coaches Vasu Paranjpe had quit their posts late last year and the posts have not been filled. The board has sanctioned Rs 1.74 crore towards the NCA for various purposes including holding a series of seminars and training sessions for coaches at different levels. The first such symposium concluded in Bangalore earlier this week.
