Dawn Shoaib turns down offer
8 January 2001

Former Pakistan opener Shoaib Mohammad has expressed his inability to serve as junior selection committee member. He, however, said on Sunday that he would prefer to continue as assistant coach of the Pakistan cricket team - a position on which he served in the home series against England.

Shoaib said he considered himself as an active cricketer and stressed that he was still keen to fight back his place. "I scored 980 runs with five centuries in the last season. It is a great going and you never know one fine morning to get a call to join the Pakistan team," he remarked.

Shoaib, while saying he would convey his decision to the PCB on Monday morning, said he was not sure if he would be retained as assistant coach.

"When I was appointed for the home series, I was told that it is going to be a long term assignment. But I am not sure if I will be retained for the coming tours," Shoaib said.

Shoaib returned to domestic circuit when he appears for the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in the Patron's Trophy which begins from Jan 26.
