Lahore High Court grants Salim Malik stay order 9 January 2001
Disgraced former captain Salim Malik was granted a stay by the Lahore High Court against the life ban imposed on him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the recommendations of Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum. The court awarded the stay until Jan 28, his counsel Shahid Hamid said from Lahore. Interestingly, the Patron's Trophy commences from Jan 26 and Salim has not been included in the 25-man provisional squad by his employers Habib Bank. A spokesman of the bank said they would follow the circular of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) which clearly states that Salim Malik is banned from all levels of the game for life. "Until the PCB gives us fresh instructions, status quo will be maintained," the spokesman said. Salim Malik now requires the permission of the Lahore High Court to appear in the opening game of the Trophy. © Dawn
