PCB Selectors name squads 29 January 2001
The Pakistan cricket selectors finally announced teams for the remaining two practice matches after a day of chaos and confusion. No less than half a dozen teams were prepared and released to the media. However, it was after 10.30pm that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially announced the sides. "These teams are final and have been duly approved by the competent authorities," manager domestic cricket Zakir Khan said from Lahore. While there were no significant changes in the teams for the Peshawar match, the Rawalpindi game teams have been strengthened as chief executive Gen Pervez Musharraf is the chief guest. The main absentee from the final game will, nevertheless, be paceman Shoaib Akhtar who is on a comeback trail. The injury-prone bowled played in just the opening match before he pulled out from the Karachi match. Zakir said: "We wanted to see his fitness and are satisfied. He had a minor problem but there is nothing serious. He is fit and fine."
