Manoj Prabhakar's condition stable
4 July 2001

The condition of former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar, admitted to a nursing home in Haldwani following a suspected brain stroke, was stated to be 'stable' on Wednesday, a day after he was remanded to 14 days judicial custody in a chit fund scam.

Though Prabhakar has developed swelling on the right side of his brain, his condition is 'stable', Dr GS Khurana, attending on him, said.

The CT scan conducted on him on Tuesday night showed he had developed swelling on the right side of the brain, he said.

Prabhakar was admitted to the clinic on yesterday after he complained of pain and stiffness in fingers and legs.

Haldwani Judicial Magistrate Ashok Kumar, who visited Prabhakar at the clinic, had ordered that a medical report of the former cricketer be sent to the court on a daily basis. He also said Prabhakar could stay in the clinic so long as he was medically unfit.

Prabhakar was arrested by Uttaranchal police from his South Delhi office on Monday following a non-bailable arrest warrant issued on May 11 by the Magistrate in connection with a chit fund company APACE Investment Ltd case.

Police had alleged that Prabhakar, as director of the company, had defrauded and cheated people while accepting deposits from them.
