Injured Shepherd has to leave the field Richard Latham - 8 July 2001
Umpire David Shepherd was forced off by injury midway through the second innings of Somerset's Norwich Union League match with Nottinghamshire at Taunton. Shepherd had looked in increasing discomfort with what looked like a calf problem and had to be helped from the field. Former Somerset player Peter Robinson, now in charge of ground security at Taunton, came on as replacement to stand at square-leg, with John Holder taking the umpiring duties at both ends. One of Robinson's first jobs was to give Darren Bicknell run out for 79, a borderline decision which the Notts batsman clearly did not agree with, to leave them 146-2 in reply to 248-8 after 26 overs. © CricInfo
