India yet to submit nominee 17 July 2001
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not submitted the names of its candidates for the post of development officers of the Asian Cricket Council, one week after the expiry of the deadline. An ACC official said Monday that while both the Sri Lankan and Pakistan Cricket Boards had sent in their nominations before the July 10 deadline, India had yet to respond. "We have not sent through any reminders to them but we were hoping to hear from them in time," said the official, who did not want to be named. According to plan one development officer each from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka is to be selected by a panel of ACC officials headed by the president of the council, Lt. Gen Tauqir Zia, who also heads the PCB. Other members on the panel are Jagmohan Dalmiya, chairman of the Asian Cricket Foundation, Zakir Hussain Syed, secretary ACC, Syed Ashraful Haque, secretary Bangladesh Cricket Board and Duleep Mendis, chairman of the ACC development committee. Meanwhile the PCB has named Mushtaq Muhammad, Shafqat Rana, Iqbal Sikandar and Zaheer Abbas as its candidates while the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) has nominated Roy Dias,Brendon Kuruppu and Rumesh Ratnayake. The candidates are to be interviewed by the ACC panel in the first week of August. The appointment of development officers will be for a period of three years. © Dawn
