Hampshire Under 15s selected for England Mike Vimpany - 18 July 2001
Two of Hampshire's most promising young cricketers - David Griffiths and Mark Mitchell - have been picked to play for England Under-15s at Eton College. The two all-rounders, who come from the Isle of Wight, will make their international debuts in separate 50-over and 3-day matches against Denmark and Ireland. They will link up with the England squad for 14 days, immediately after next week's ESCA Bunbury Under-15 Festival at Winchester College. Griffiths, who plays for Shanklin, and Mitchell, the highly rated Ventnor batsman and left-arm spin bowler, will play for the West alongside four of their Hampshire team-mates in the ESCA Divisional tournament, which begins on Monday. Locks Heath's Alex Richardson captains the West side, which also includes Flamingos opener Kevin Latouf, Andover's James Manning and Hampshire Under-15 captain Chris Martin. © Hampshire YC
