Rain forces draw for Somerset Seconds.
Richard Walsh - 20 July 2001

Rain during the tea interval caused an early conclusion to the Championship match between Somerset Seconds and Worcestershire at the County Ground today.

Somerset declared their innings on their overnight score of 442 for 6, meaning that the visitors were 217 behind when they started their innings.

Second time round former Somerset batsman Nick Boulton scored a cultured 81 not out, but the highlight of the Worcestershire innings was 115 off 90 balls from D. Taylor, which included 3 sixes and 19 fours.

By the time the rain called a premature halt to the proceedings, Worcestershire had reached 252 for 4. The pick of the home attack was Pete Trego who bowled 11 overs, three maidens and took 3 for 34.

Somerset take 12 points from the drawn match and Worcestershire seven points.

Somerset Seconds travel to Hastings next week to take on Sussex in a four-day game which starts on Tuesday.
