Single delivery injures both Hollioake and Brown Matthew Appleby - 23 July 2001
Two Surrey and England stars were injured in the same bizarre incident during their match against Northants at Guildford. Ally Brown and Ben Hollioake both sustained hand injuries when an Alex Tudor delivery was edged by Norrthamptonshire opener Adrian Rollins. The ball hit third slip Brown on the left thumb, rebounding on to third slip Hollioake's left wrist. Brown is out for ten days minimum, but "at the worst it could be seven weeks", revealed Surrey coach Keith Medlycott. The international sees a specialist today. Last week's Benson and Hedges Cup final hero Hollioake will be unavailable for seven to ten days. Brown batted on the day after he was hurt, scoring a match-winning 103, which contained fewer boundaries (just 11) than a typical Brown knock, due to the injury. Medlycott concluded: "We've been a little bit unlucky, but we've got a week off now, so it's come at a decent time and then hopefully we can get the injuries under a bit more control." © CricInfo Ltd.
