A fluent and composed batsman - and a sleek prowler in the field - Hemang Badani is one of India's new-millennium middle-order hopes. Upright at the crease he lacks the flourishes of some left-handers, but compensates with a polished allround game. He is more likely to score in the V than square of the wicket. But early in his career, it was a cool, calculating head that many recognized as Badani's biggest strength. He has already provided lower-order reassurance and an additional spin option to the one-day side. His Test career - that began inexplicably as an opener in Zimbabwe - is yet to mature.
