Italy: Bologna and Capannelle on the run
Dr. Simone Gambino - 3 June 2001
Half way through the preliminary phase of the European Incoming Services Cup
(the Italian Championship), Bologna Web Italia and defending Champions
Capannelle Sharp are on the run.
Bologna have so far clean sweeped the northern group easily disposing of
Trentino, last year's finalists and in all probability this year wooden-spooners, Brera Milan, a big disappointment considering its spending spree on the market, and Maremma Grosseto, a team decidedly on the up, before disposing on May 13th of Pianoro by a mere 17 runs in a nail biting local derby: 148 - 131, Pianoro's approach to this all important game having been the same in results if not as convincing in margins.
Capannelle's domination of the southern group has been total, although wins over Lazio and Murri occured by relatively small margins, three & two wickets respectively. These two teams will battle it out for the last play-off berth, Roma & Galatea both being out of contention, with Lazio favoured by a slightly easy run in and a home fixture in the direct match, Murri having won the first encounter in Catania in the opening round.
