Durham and Loughborough meet in UCCE One-Day Final ECB Media Release - 26 June 2001
Loughborough University Centre of Cricketing Excellence (UCCE) will play Durham UCCE in the inaugural ECB UCCE One-Day Challenge Final at Lord's tomorrow (Wednesday 27 July). The final, which pits together former England players Graeme Fowler (Durham) and Graham Dilley (Loughborough) as coaches of the teams, is a 50-over contest played to Benson & Hedges Cup regulations. A number of County contracted players feature in each university squad. Loughborough have three contracted players - Nick Stovold (Gloucestershire), John Francis (Hampshire) and Mark Powell (Northants) - while Durham boast seven - Michael Brown (Middlesex), Matthew Banes (Kent), Robert Ferley (Kent), James Foster (Essex), Tim Phillips (Essex), Alex Stead (Yorkshire) and Charles van der Gucht (Hampshire). Durham will be looking to avenge its recent loss to Loughborough in the BUSA Final. The two finalists have gained their places in the final by finishing first (Loughborough) and second (Durham) in the Inter-UCCE two-day Championship, which was contested by six UCCEs: Loughborough, Durham, Cardiff, Oxford, Cambridge and Bradford/Leeds. © ECB
