Jacob Oram
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 26, 2001
Wisden overview Like Chris Nevin, Jacob Oram has been promoted as the ideal type of one-day player New Zealand need. Close to 6ft 6ins tall, and strongly built, Oram looks more an All Black loose forward candidate than a cricketer. He bowls sharpish medium right-arm, bats left-handed, has a powerful throw from the outfield, and may well develop to the allround class that Bruce Taylor brought to New Zealand cricket in the 1960s and `70s. Oram also has distinct leadership qualities, taking over the Central Districts captaincy as a 22-year-old, and leading his team to victory over the formidable Canterbury side in the 2000-01 Shell Cup one-day final. Oram is already being spoken of as Stephen Fleming's eventual replacement as New Zealand captain. Don Cameron
