James Franklin
Wisden CricInfo staff - June 26, 2001
Wisden overview Franklin's hybrid set of names - a very American surname plus three English kings - is quite apt for a young fast-medium left-arm bowler who has a mixed style and is still rather confused about his best bowling method. One of the new bowling breed called up when New Zealand's front-line strike force suffered so many injuries in 2000-01, the tall, willowy Franklin favoured a short-pitched attack, even though he has been required to attack the stumps from a full length during his one-day international appearances. This made Franklin an expensive proposition in the shorter version, but brought him spectacular success in his first Test, where he took four second-innings wickets for 26 against Pakistan - and changed from a bowling lamb to a lion.
