MUMBAI, India - Indian paceman Javagal Srinath may not be fit for the second cricket Test against Australia after fracturing his right index finger in the first game of the three-match series, the team coach said today.

Srinath fractured a joint in the finger which is swollen, New Zealander John Wright said after India had suffered a 10-wicket defeat inside three days.

"We have to wait and watch. Three days before the test starts, we are going to finally decide when we see how he feels," he said.

The second Test starts in Calcutta on March 11.

Srinath bowled despite suffering the injury on the opening day when he was hit by a rising ball while batting against paceman Jason Gillespie.

He was the last man in and batted one-handed today in a feeble effort to extend India's lead, which was restricted to 47 when Glenn McGrath bowled Srinath.

"He bowled pretty well even with the fracture. But we have to see if he can grip the ball properly," Wright said.

Wright, who has been urging Indians to bring passion into their game, was impressed by Srinath's willingness to bat in the second innings despite the injury.

"He wanted to bat today. He looked awkward and one could question the wisdom of sending him out.

"But I like players who put themselves on the line," he added.
