South African bowlers punished on day two against Busta Cup XI MWP - 5 March 2001
Allan Donald suffered a humiliating start to his Caribbean tour when Busta XI openers Daren Ganga and Sherwin Campbell ripped into his opening spell on the second morning of the three day match at the Everest Club in Georgetown. At lunch on the second day the composite XI were 124-1 in reply to SA's 271-9 declared. Donald was belted to most parts of the large, club ground while the crowd of three or four hundred cheered in the manner of their rum-inspired chorus of the previous afternoon. Donald, however, was not alone in his embarrassment as South Africa captain Shaun Pollock also sufferd the shock of being hammered straight back over his head by both openers. Donald conceded no less than 40 runs from his opening six overs while Pollock was taken for 30 runs. Campbell spent the night before the second day's play with vomiting after a dose of food poisoning but it hardly seemed to affect him as he reached his 50 from just 72 balls with eight boundaries during an opening stand of 106 with 21-year-old Ganga. The much needed breakthrough for the tourists finally came in the 23rd over when Makhaya Ntini breached Campbell's defences with a rapid delivery that uprooted the middle stump. At lunch, however, Ganga was still ominously placed on 58 not out with Sylvester Joseph on six. © CricInfo LTD
