West Indies board seek TV replacement for Holding Media Release - 9 March 2001
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will be inviting new personnel to join its panel of television analysts for the Cable & Wireless 2001 Series. This opportunity has been created by the withdrawal of former West Indies fast bowler, Michael Holding, from the commentary team earlier this week. Throughout the series, a number of persons will be invited by the WICB to take Holding's place, starting with another past West Indies bowler, Colin Croft, who has been chosen to fill the breach for the first West Indies-South Africa Test beginning tomorrow in Guyana. The WICB's Chief Marketing Executive, Chris Dehring, said Holding's departure had created the opportunity for skilled cricket commentators, particularly former Test players, to have a chance to develop their talent in the broadcast arena. He noted that the WICB was looking to extend this opportunity to others like Croft who had shown an interest in pursuing a media career in cricket and who had had international experience in this. "We strive to offer viewers the best in commentary and analysis and that includes trying to involve past Test players who can offer that unique perspective because they have been out there in the middle." © CricInfo Ltd.
