Mumbai to meet Punjab in Ranji Trophy quarter-final 12 March 2001
Mumbai, who have got a direct bye to the last eight stage, will play Punjab in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final as the latter won their pre-quarterfinal against Rajasthan at Mohali by an innings and 12 runs. The quarter-final will be played at the Wankhede Stadium from March 20-24. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) joint secretary, Mayank Khandwala, told PTI in Mumbai on Monday that the BCCI has has agreed to advance the tie to March 20 (the scheduled date was from March 22) so that the Mumbai team could take part in the Global one-day Provincial tourney in Perth from March 29. Meanwhile, the BCCI secretary JY Lele, who was on his way to Kolkata, confirmed over phone to the PTI today that the board has agreed to advance the quarter-final tie by two days. Reigning Ranji champions Mumbai have been invited for the Perth tournament along with three other champion teams from Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
