Overseas vacancies filled in Southern Electric Premier League Mike Vimpany - 18 March 2001
The Southern Electric Premier League have announced that are no more vacancies for would-be overseas players for the coming season. "We have been swamped with requests from the Southern Hemisphere are now totally full," said a Premier League spokesman. "It's very pleasing to know so many cricketers want to come to Hampshire this summer, but now that clubs are restricted to one overseas player, the places quickly became filled." The Premier League is concerned at the misapprehension of some overseas players who seem to think they will benefit from the recently-announced sponsorship links with Southern Electric. "Nothing could be further from the truth. We are not in the market for providing assisted packages into this country. "Players who come to our Premier League clubs must possess a proper coaching qualification - and get stuck into coaching and helping develop our grass roots cricket when they arrive there. "The Southern Electric deal is all about cricket development - not subsidising overseas players," the spokesman added. © SPCL
