Yuvraj speaks highly of Sourav's support
Staff Reporter - 28 March 2001

The failure to get runs in the one-day matches against Zimbabwe has been the main reason for him not finding a place in the Indian team feels Yuvraj Singh. The dashing left-hander, who was in Kolkata on Monday enroute to Dhaka where he played in the one day exhibition match on Tuesday said that he had not given up hopes of making a comeback. Little did he know then that an injury to Virendra Shewag would open up the doors for him to join his favourite captain.

Yuvraj said that after getting a hundred against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final, he had received a call from Sourav Ganguly. "He congratulated me and told me not to lose hope. Getting dropped is a part of life. He also stated that if I performed, I would definitely be called back," informed Yuvraj. Then he added, "The way Sourav has supported me during my bad times is unthinkable. I am ready to die for such a captain."

Yuvraj does not believe that his behaviour has been one of the main causes for his omission. When it was pointed out that people were critical of his behaviour, Yuvraj said, "I do not think that is the reason for which I have been dropped. I failed to perform. That is the bottom line. People did not talk about my behaviour when I scored 84 against Australia at Nairobi. I have remained the same. At least I would like to believe that I have been dropped because of cricketing reasons," reasoned Yuvraj.

Other than these few words, the son of former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh did not want to speak much. All he said was that at the moment, scoring runs was his primary concern. He also made it clear that he was not bothered about all the discussions about him. "My aim now is to cement a place in the Indian side. And for that, I am ready to work very, very hard," he concluded.
