Abrahams to link up with the Titans 2 May 2001
South African one-day international Shafiek Abrahams is to move from Eastern Province to the Northerns Titans for the 2001/2002 season. "I have received an offer from the Titans and have decided to further my career by taking up this offer," the all-rounder said on Wednesday. "I wish to make it clear that this decision was made purely to advance my career in cricket and life thereafter," he said. Dave Emslie, CEO of EP Cricket said Abrahams was an outstanding and loyal servant to Eastern Province and a real pleasure to deal with in all aspects. "Shafiek always contributed well with regards to bat and ball." According to Emslie, EP understand Abrahams' motivation for the move. "We hope his decision to play for the Northern Titans will prove to be right one. Shafiek leaves the EPCB with our blessing and the very best of wishes." Brandon Foot, President of the Northerns Cricket Union, expressed his excitement at Shafiek joining the Northern Titans for the forthcoming season. "Shafiek is a talented and experienced cricketer who will play a major role in the campaign of the Northern Titans during the forthcoming season and thereafter'" said Foot. "We believe Shafiek will complement our existing squad and, in particular improve the Titans' bowling department and provide all-round ability, which will strengthen the Titans in this respect. "Shafiek's administrative and coaching abilities are also well-respected and the potential exists for Shafiek to pursue a career outside of cricket, when his playing days have been completed," Foot said.
