Better prospects for play, as Hampshire chose 13 for Surrey B&H match
Vic Isaacs - 4 May 2001
Hampshire will be hoping to get their Benson & Hedges campaign underway today, when they take on Surrey at the Hampshire Rose Bowl. Having just played four overs in their two scheduled matches to date, the dry weather that has reached the South of England has remained. Nigel Gray, Hampshire head groundsman is optomistic. "We have at last, had an opportunity to get the mowers out, and although conditions will not be perfect, the umpires and captains will I'm sure be keen to see play".
Hampshire chose from the same squad that were scheduled to play Essex on Wednesday. "We will look at the wicket first", says Director of Cricket Tim Tremlett, "Before deciding on our final eleven".
The squad: Robin Smith (captain), Adi Aymes (Wicket-keeper), Neil Johnson, Will Kendall, Derek Kenway, Jason Laney, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Alex Morris, Zac Morris, Alan Mullally, John Stephenson, Shaun Udal and Giles White.
