PCB Bowling Advisors clear Shoaib's off breaks; recommend coaching on 'wrong ones' Pakistan Cricket Board - 11 May 2001
The PCB Group of Bowling Advisors comprising of the following met at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on 10th May 2001 in the afternoon to review the tape of bowling action of Shoaib Malik sent by ICC:
The 3rd member of the Committee Mr. Iqbal Sikander (leg Spinner) could not attend as he is presently in England attending the ECB Level III coaching course. Prior to this meeting, the Bowling Advisors had on 26th April met Shoaib Malik and physically examined his bowling action. On 10th May, after watching the video received from ICC, they held a long discussion with Shoaib Malik who was also present on this day. The Bowling Advisors, after carefully examining the video have resolved that the entire bowling action of Shoaib Malik has no fault nor does it contravene the ICC rules. However, his arm for one particular delivery, which goes the other way for the off spinner, apparently seems to deviate from the ICC rules. Shoaib Malik was counseled to concentrate on his off spinners more and if "innovating" with this particular delivery, he should practice on not bending his arm.
After discussing on telephone with the 3rd member of the Committee Mr. Iqbal Sikander, the PCB Group of Bowling Advisors have suggested that Shoaib be given training by former Off Spinner and now Umpire Mohammad Nazir (Junior) to remove any technical flaws with his action. This would be done at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore where Shoaib Malik will be attending the Pakistan National Academy.
