South Wilts stave off B.A.T.Sports challenge in thrilling run chase

BAT Sports, requiring a boundary off the last ball, finished three runs short after a furious run chase at Lower Bemerton, where Southern Electric ECB Premier Division One rivals South Wilts just hung on.
Half centuries by Russell Rowe (53) and Australian Brendan Pauwells (56) steered South Wilts to a useful 222-6 (Richard Dibden 3-34).
But, spearheaded by Richard Kenway (36), BAT gave chase and were well placed at 61-1.
Damien Shirazi (50) and Dave Carson (26) took BAT's reply on to 146-2, but a tidy spell by Sean Little left them adrift of the required rate.
The middle-order batsmen sacrificed their wickets in a bid to catch up, but a target of 60 off the last six overs proved just too much.
Teenager John Chandler (4-25) created inroads before BAT were left needing nine runs for victory off Chris Steedon's final over - and a boundary from the final ball.
They finished three runs behind at 219-8, Adam Hayes 32 not out.
Ian Langdown hit a splendid 102 as Andover bounced back from the previous week's defeat by Burridge and beat Hungerford by 46 runs.
Langdown's century included 11 fours and four sixes - one of which landed in the centre circle of the adjoining Hungerford Town soccer pitch !
Supported by Jerry Hayward (29) in a key fourth-wicket stand of 80, Langdown steered Andover towards a match-winning 230-9.
Formr Suffolk opener Neil Rider kept Hungerford's reply afloat, but the weakened Berkshire club lost wickets to spin pair Andy Clark (3-39) and Andy Hooper (1-20), finishing at 184-7.
Defending champions Havant are already setting the pace after a second consecutive win - by 85 runs - at Liphook & Ripsley.
Havant's 217-9 was based around a 98-run start between Dominic Carson (85) and Australian Shane Gillies (48), and included a useful knock by Richard Lewis (32) against his former team-mates.
Liphook lost Steve Riley to a crazy run-out immediately after tea and struggled to 132-9, with left-arm spinner Phil Loat (3-27) and Lewis (2-11) particularly effective.
Calmore Sports have still yet to play a Premier Division 1 match. Their scheduled visit to Burridge was called off due to an unfit outfield.
