India to prefer Asian Test Championship over indoor tournament 28 May 2001
India will participate in the 'official tournament' in case of a clash of dates between the Asian Test championship and an indoor one-day series against Australia, both scheduled in September this year. The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India Jaywant Lele said on Monday that the BCCI was still awaiting a final word on the dates and venues of India's matches in the Asian Test championship and in case of a clash, the Australian Cricket Board would be asked to defer the dates of the indoor tournament. "We are awaiting a letter from the Asian Cricket Council about the dates and venues of India's matches in the Asian Test championship," Lele told PTI over the phone. "In case of a clash, India will play only in the official tournament and the BCCI will write to the ACB to change the dates accordingly for the indoor tournament," he said. Pakistan is scheduled to host India from September 13 to 17 in an Asian Test championship match, according to the itinerary released during the Asian Cricket Council meeting in Lahore last week.
