Somerset sign up two additional sponsors for Junior Sabres for 2002
Richard Walsh - 26 November 2001

Somerset County Cricket Club have recruited two additional sponsors for their Junior Sabres Club, which is the junior section of the club's membership.

Last season 736 young people under the age of twenty one joined Somerset and this category of membership is seen as vitally important to the life blood and future of the club.

Membership secretary Joanne Betsworth told me today, "Following on from the success of 2001 we are happy to announce that for the 2002 season there are a record number of sponsors for the Junior Sabres Club. For the 2001 season we were supported by Birmingham Midshires and McDonalds Restaurants, and these have now been joined by Boundary Sports and Somerset County Gazette."

Part of the agreement with McDonalds was that they would sponsor Marcus Trescothick to the tune of £1 for every run he scored for England in the year.

"Between Christmas and New Year when Marcus has returned from India he will be presented with a cheque at McDonalds in Taunton which will go towards the Junior Sabres Club," Jo Betsworth concluded.
