Jason Gillespie has been really good this morning. It's just a pity he couldn't bowl about twenty overs! His action has been spot on and he's bowled with great, easy rhythm. That's usually the key to Glenn McGrath's bowling but today it was Gillespie. He bowled with real pace too – Adam Gilchrist was taking the ball around chest and head height for a pretty high percentage of the time.

The ball that got Mark Richardson was the perfect length. Now, the one before was slightly too full and Gillespie knew that and felt what he had to do. He corrected the length next delivery and got the result. Then Stephen Fleming did the right thing and nicked the next one! And that was exactly the type of delivery that Richardson had been playing and missing. When Gillespie gets his length right he's going to cause trouble for any batsman. It was just great bowling.

The collapse always looked just around the corner once the bowlers hit that length often enough. The wicket has been doing plenty, and both McGrath and Gillespie got a lot of sideways movement. Brett Lee doesn't get as much sideways movement as them, but his strength is that he is genuinely fast. That does mean batsmen reckon they can score off him, so it's really important for him to be accurate.

Nathan Astle and Craig McMillan have done it well, it's been a nice little partnership. As I've been saying all week – they have to enjoy the challenge and not go into their shells. They've done exactly the right thing in having a go at Warney. It's the way they both bat and they need to play their natural game. Steve Waugh has set attacking fields, so there are plenty of run-scoring opportunities out there. The Kiwis need to save the follow-on to save this game - and the best way of doing that is to play their shots.
