Record start for England Wisden CricInfo staff - November 23, 2001
10.30am England 320 (Ramprakash 105, Sarandeep 5-98), Board President's XI 16 for 1 (S Sriram 5*, D Mongia 8*)
As India, South Africa and the ICC played poker politics, England were busy breaking records on the second day at Hyderabad. It was one to get the statisticians chewing their pencils in excitement - Richard Dawson and Matthew Hoggard put on 28 for the last wicket, the best 10th-wicket partnership for an England side at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, beating a massive 17 by Alan Brown and Butch White in 1961-62. It included a hooked six by Dawson, who has hardly put a foot wrong on this tour. He was eventually out flashing at Sanjay Bangar, and was caught at slip for 24. Hoggard, the unvanquished batsman, then topped his early-morning success by bowling Wasim Jaffer, compiler of 99 against England in the tour opener at Mumbai, first ball for 0 (3-1).
