Blessed with a sturdy build and a large heart, Iqbal Siddiqui opened the attack for Maharashtra, and briefly for Hyderabad, for eight years before breaking into the Indian squad in 2001-02. Primarily an inswing bowler, Siddiqui has an easy run-up and generates a fair amount of pace. When on fire, he can run through batting line-ups. But his tendency to experiment can also make him error-prone and inconsistent. He is no slouch with the bat, and has a first-class century and a couple of fifties to his name. S Rajesh
