Where they stand

As the ECB prepare to meet with the England squad to try and reassure them that travelling to India poses no risk to their personal safety, we look at what seven of the players -- and one of the officials -- have had to say about the trip.
Craig White "I don't think any of the guys will be too keen on going. The situation is that if there's going to be retaliation, there's no way they cannot guarantee our safety, so why risk it? We are not trying to get out of touring -- I just think it's a bit close to where it's all going off. Maybe if I was 23 without a family ... but I have got a wife and two kids and they don't want me to go."
Andy Caddick "I doubt if I can be convinced. It is all very well for officials to say it's safe. But my worry is that we're recognisable and it's bound to be a high-profile tour. One major incident and then it's too late"
Nasser Hussain "It's not just players who are going. There's physios and other officials, everyone's going to have to make the decision with the ECB. That's a personal safety decision everyone's going to have to take. I'm getting worried about the state of mind my team's going to be in. It's going to be very difficult to get the players out of their rooms and not to have a siege mentality."
Graham Thorpe "Of course we have reservations, but reservations don't amount to saying that we are not going. I am optimistic that we will go. It is a huge challenge and none of us want to see the tour cancelled."
Michael Vaughan "If the Foreign Office say it's safe to go, I would go."
James Foster "I'm concerned about the trip because I feel it's a bit of a risk. I don't know whether the players are going to make the decision or if it is going to be made for us. But we'll listen to what they've got to say and I'm sure the final decision will be one that everyone's going to be happy with."
Mark Ramprakash "I don't want to make any decision until I've found out what the Foreign Office has to say. They're surely the people who know what's happening there."
David Graveney
"I am sure there are a lot of reservations and I can understand the concerns. It is important that players are made aware of the full facts. They will listen to what is said and make decisions with their families.
Tim Lamb "We're confident that we'll be able to persuade the players that the situation in India is not quite as serious as certain people have been led to believe. We do understand that players are apprehensive as this is a difficult and delicate situation, but that's why we've called a meeting. We can't force people to get on the plane but the meeting will hopefully make them more confident about going to India."
