• Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar added 258 for the first wicket, a new world record for a one-day international. They also held the previous record -- 252 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 1997-98.

• Ganguly and Tendulkar's century partnership is their 16th for the first wicket in ODIs, taking them past the previous record of 15, by Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes for West Indies. It is the 110th innings in which Ganguly and Tendulkar have opened together. Greenidge and Haynes opened up on 102 occasions.

• Tendulkar's hundred is his 31st in one-day internationals, extending his world record. He now has 12 more than the next best, Saeed Anwar. It is his sixth outside Asia and his second in South Africa. He is playing in his 279th match.

• It is also Tendulkar's fourth century in seven innings against Kenya and takes his average against them to 139.75.

• India's 351 for 3 is ninth-highest one-day total of all time. It is also the second-highest in South Africa, behind the 354 for 3 made by South Africa against Kenya on Monday, and the highest in four matches at Paarl, passing South Africa's 250 for 2 against Sri Lanka in 2000-01.

• Virender Sehwag reached 50 in 22 balls, equalling the second-fastest by an Indian in ODIs, and the eighth-fastest of all time: Kapil Dev also took 22 balls against West Indies at Berbice in 1982-83. The quickest was by Ajit Ajarkar, whose fifty against Zimbabwe at Rajkot in 2000-01 took only 21 balls.

• Ganguly's 111 was his 18th one-day hundred, moving him up to joint-third with Mark Waugh on the alltime list. Above them are Saeed Anwar (19) and that man Tendulkar (31).

• When he reached 23 Ganguly became the third Indian (after Tendulkar and Mohammad Azharuddin) and the 13th person in all to make 7000 one-day runs. He is playing in his 180th match.
