Connor Williams
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 26, 2001

Wisden overview
Son of a former Baroda captain, Cecil Williams, and coached by another Baroda legend, Dattajirao Gaekwad, Connor Williams himself went on to open the innings for the state with consistent success, scoring a half-century or more every third innings. A left-hander, he accumulates his runs patiently, and knows how to put away the bad ball and put the play-and-miss behind him, even if rumours persist that he can't handle the delivery that bounces. After five seasons of domestic cricket, he earned a Test call-up for the 2001-02 tour of South Africa, when an injury to Sadagoppan Ramesh coincided with Williams's 143 and 83 in the Irani Trophy. However, he and Jacques Rudolph of South Africa had the misfortune to make their first appearances in the Test-that-wasn't at Centurion, in the aftermath of the Mike Denness affair.
