Gallian, Johnson sign new Notts contracts Notts CCC Media Release - 2 October 2001
Skipper Jason Gallian and former captain Paul Johnson have each agreed new contracts with Notts. Gallian signed a deal to keep him at Trent Bridge until the end of the 2004 season while Johnson put pen to paper on a new one-year contract - his 21st consecutive season on the staff. Notts were without Gallian for the majority of last season when he was sidelined following keyhole surgery to his knee, leaving Darren Bicknell to act as captain in his absence. Gallian made a brief comeback at Edgbaston in a washed out one-day match at the start if August, then broke a finger against Warwickshire in his first Championship innings of the season and decided to return for a second knee operation. The 30-year-old former England batsman is expected to be fully fit for the start of the 2002 campaign. Johnson, aged 36, is the clubıs longest serving player and appeared in 13 Championship matches for Notts last season, scoring almost 700 runs at an average of 31. The attacking stroke-maker was also a major contributor in the Norwich Union League campaign, missing only one game and contributing nearly 400 runs, including three brisk half-centuries, at an average of 29.53. © Nottinghamshire CCC
