Vincent, Cairns score runs against QAS
AAP - 28 October 2001
New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent enhanced his Test claims with a century against the Queensland Academy of Sport today as the tour match meandered to a draw at Allan Border Field.
Vincent made 136 in a bright note for the struggling New Zealanders, who were making up for a mediocre bowling performance yesterday.
At tea, New Zealand was 5-325 in its first innings, trailing the Academy by 152, with Craig McMillan on 33 and Chris Cairns on 43.
Cairns had made his runs from just 25 balls, hitting three sixes in a positive sign ahead of the Test series against Australia from Thursday week.
Vincent has yet to play a Test but he made a sound claim today with a watchful century, cashing in on a dropped chance when he was 25.
He was eventually caught behind off Mark George (2-68) after Nathan Astle (35) skied a catch off Lee Carseldine (1-33).
