Keep it back of a length Wisden CricInfo staff - September 9, 2001
HARARE (Reuters) - South African captain Shaun Pollock is in no doubt that Andy Flower is the major obstacle in their path to victory over Zimbabwe in the first Test. Flower scored 142 in Zimbabwe's first innings and, when they followed on 314 behind, hit an unbeaten 43 out of 97 for three at the close on the third day. "Andy played really well in the first innings and he's their key player, and hopefully we can get rid of him," Pollock told reporters. "We might put a few more gullies or slips in and keep it back of a length." Pollock said the pitch would not work in South Africa's favour. "There's not too much happening from the seamers' point of view and it's quite spongy, so it's going to be hard work, but the guys are prepared for it." Pollock was happy with the bowling of debutant fast bowler Andre Nel, who took four for 53 in the first innings: "He bowled nicely, four wickets on debut - I think he would have accepted that if you had offered it to him." © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
