Mangala Samaraweera has been appointed as the new Minister of Sports in the Probationary Government, which the People's Alliance and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) have formed.
President Chandrika Kumaratunga announced the shortened 20 ministers of the cabinet in a ceremony held this morning at the Temple Trees.
Samaraweera, a leading minister of the ruling Peoples Alliance government held the post of Urban Development, construction and Public Utilities previously.
He replaces Lakshman Kiriella who was instrumental in forming the present Interim Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka.
