Younger Green leads Easton to Rose Bowl final
Mike Vimpany - 8 April 2002

Shaun Green produced a stunning all-round performance to steer Easton & Martyr Worthy into Sunday's Hampshire Cricket Board Indoor Finals at the Rose Bowl.

Green wrecked Harting's middle-order with a spell of 3-11 before hitting an unbeaten 30 to ease Easton to a four-wicket win. Harting, South East Hants area champions, began well through Colin Pay (36 not out) and Simon Barnard (25).

But they fell apart against Green, who clean bowled two of his three victims as Harting dipped to 94-4.

The prominent Easton all-rounder promptly lost Andy Birch and elder brother Steve but his unbeaten 30, supported by an an undefeated 27 from evergreen Ian Kerr, saw the Winchester & District champions home with three overs to spare.

Easton are clear favourites to beat Lymington's New Forest League winning side in Sunday's second semi-final at the Rose Bowl Indoor School. In the other tie, cup holders Winchester KS face Paultons, who scraped a five-run win over Hook & Newnham Basics in a quarter-final run feast.

Colin James cracked 55 not out and Mike Chalk an unbeaten 33 in Paultons powerful 145-3. Hook hit back through Barry Goodman (35) but, having needed 19 runs to win off Tony Richman's last over, were dismissed for 140.
