ICC Appoint General Manager - Communications
ICC Media Release - 16 April 2002

ICC completes Senior Management team with appointment of General Manager-Communications

The ICC today announced the appointment of Brendan McClements as its first General Manager - Communications, a move that completes the recruitment of the ICC's new senior management team.

McClements joins world cricket's governing body from a similar position with the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), where he spent almost three years as General Manager- Public Affairs.

During that period he was responsible for building and leading the ACB's Public Affairs department and was a member of the Board's senior management team.

"With millions of stakeholders throughout the cricketing world effective communication is a priority area for the ICC. Brendan has been recruited to build and manage a quality team of communications specialists who will raise the profile of the organisation. He is a seasoned professional who brings high profile experience in cricket, other sports and commercial life to his new role," commented ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed.

McClements said that he was looking forward to joining the ICC and playing a part in strengthening the organisation as it takes cricket forward.

"Over the past nine months, the ICC has made terrific progress in responding to the challenges facing international cricket," said McClements. "I now have the opportunity to play a role in taking the game forward and strengthening its position around the world. This is something that I am very much looking forward to."

McClements' appointment completes a nine month programme to build a substantial senior management team under Malcolm Speed. This has included the recruitment of experienced managers to run cricket, finance and legal departments, together with support staff.

Prior to joining the ACB, McClements built his career through holding senior public affairs and communications positions within this business, consultancy and sporting fields.

He will relocate to London with his wife and young family and takes up his new post with the ICC from early June.
