England Women's Test Squad announced for England v India Test Series ECB Media Release - 1 August 2002
England's young bowlers Isa Guha (Berkshire) and Laura Spragg (Yorkshire) retain their places following impressive performances in the one-day international series, in which England contested the final against New Zealand. They join Clare Taylor, England's most experienced bowler, who became the first Englishwoman to take 100 international wickets against India this summer. England Captain, Clare Connor, said, "everyone in the team has been selected because they are currently in form which means we have a lot of confidence as a squad. We view this Test Series as a chance for players to score runs and build good partnerships in the top order which is something we didn't do in the ODI's, and we're playing on traditionally good batting tracks at Shenley and Taunton". There are recalls to the squad for two top order batsmen, Caroline Atkins of Sussex and Yorkshire's Kathryn Leng.
The 14 players are: Player England Caps Date of birth Clare Connor (Sussex) Captain 64 01.09.1976 Clare Taylor (Yorks) 92 22.05.1965 Caroline Atkins (Sussex) 9 13.01.1981 Charlotte Edwards (Kent) 35 17.12.1979 Mandie Godliman (Sussex) 3 05.04.1973 Isa Guha (Berskhire) 2 21.05.1985 Laura Harper (Somerset) 11 21.01.1984 Dawn Holden (Notts) 29 09.10.1980 Laura Newton (Cheshire) 21 27.11.1977 Claire Taylor (Berks) 26 25.09.1975 Kathryn Leng (Yorks) 42 10.09.1973 Melissa Reynard (Yorks) 47 14.03.1972 Laura Spragg (Yorks) 5 16.06.1982 Nikki Shaw (Notts) 15 30.12.1981 Following their win in the Frizzell Women's County Championship yesterday, four Yorkshire players have been named in the squad.
