Somerset Under 19's all set for the quarter finals

Somerset look set to qualify for the quarter finals of the ECB Under 19's competition later this month after enjoying a very successful five days during last week.

On Monday and Tuesday against Warwickshire at Stratford on Avon they won the match on the first innings. After Tom Moss, a seventeen debutant from Nailsea had helped to dispose of the hosts for 203, Somerset replied with 289,with James Hildreth making 60, Gareth Andrew 58 and Steve Davis 42.

Batting for a second time Warwickshire had reached 87 for 4 by the time that the game ended, giving Somerset 18 points from the game.

In the second game of the week at Clevedon, Somerset were unlucky not to get an outright win against Northants.

In the first innings the visitors were bowled out for 192, with Adam Kelly, James Hildreth and Steve Davis taking 2 wickets each.

Somerset replied with 345 for 8 declared, with Richard Timms being in sparkling form hitting an unbeaten 144, Gareth Andrew making 72 and Luke Stokes 50.

Batting for a second time Northants had reached 199 for 9 by the end, giving Somerset 22 points from the game.

The quarter finals they will be played at Shifnal in Shropshire over 2 days starting on August 20th.

Under 19's coach Peter Robinson told me: "The boys have played very well this season and thoroughly deserve to qualify for the next stage of the competition. There is a lot of talent at this level and it is very pleasing that they have done so well."
